Radiofrequency of face and body– Explanations : Doctor POIGNONEC plastic surgeon in Paris

What is radiofrequency technology to treat sagging skin on the face or body?
The radiofrequency face is a recent technique which consists in heating the dermis without damaging the epidermis. It allows the collagen and elastic fibres of the dermis to be tensioned again, without burning it, using a small rounded probe. The radio frequency is delivered after the application of an ultrasound gel. It is suitable for all skin types, even the darkest, for people who want to fight against sagging skin (oval face, neck, wrinkled cheeks, jowls, etc.). Several sessions are necessary. The result being not definitive, one maintenance session per year is essential.
How long does the session last?
Each session lasts from 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the area to be treated.
How the radio frequency sessions take place?
- 6 sessions in 2 months.
- The first 4 sessions must follow one week to 10 days apart.
- The last 2 are 15 days apart.
- Do a point with the surgeon after 3 months.
- The session ends without marks, or with only a few temporary redness and swelling (24 to 48 hours).
After how long are the results visible?
The results are visible, on average, from the 3rd session. One can obtain a smoothed aspect, an improvement of the elasticity and tonicity of the skin, a firmed oval, a “healthy glow” effect. In general, the results improve for another few months after the end of the program. They are durable over time. The result is maintained with one session every 3 to 4 months (this varies according to the devices).

Are there any risks of complications?
Side Effects:
- No side effects with non-ablative mode (dull complexion, dilated pores).
- Redness for 2 to 3 days with fractional mode (fine lines, wrinkles on sagging skin of face, neck and neckline).
All in all, we must not overestimate the risks, but simply become aware that a medical-surgical act, even a seemingly simple one, always involves a small proportion of risks. Using a qualified practitioner ensures that they have the training and skills required to avoid these complications, or treat them effectively if necessary.
By choosing a qualified and competent practitioner, trained in this type of treatment, you limit these risks as much as possible without however completely eliminating them. If you notice one or more complications, contact the plastic and aesthetic surgeon immediately.
