What are the steps of surgery of the abdomen?

Step 1 : Anesthesia

The operation takes place under general anaesthetic.

Step 2 : The incision

A full tummy tuck requires a horizontal incision in the area located between the limit of pubic hair and the navel. After the incision, which the route corresponds to the place where your skin is injured, excess fat is extracted by liposuction and distended muscles are returned to power. The shape and length of the incision are determined by the amount of skin to remove. Once the skin of the abdomen is raised, the underlying weak abdominal muscles can be repaired. A second incision around the navel may be necessary to remove the excess skin in the upper abdomen. Upper abdominal skin is pulled down. The excess skin is cut and the remaining skin is sutured. A new opening is created at the level of the navel. Then get out the navel to the surface and it is sutured to his place. Most often, the scar is located on the top edge of the pubic hair and overflows more or less far into the folds of the groin. It is more or less long and more or less hidden depending on the case. Before your release of the block, a plaster molding you will be asked.

Step 3 : Closing the incisions

Aspiring drains are implemented. The sutures are made with no suture. The dressing of contention is reinforced by the port of a medical elastic sheath. The duration of hospitalization varies from 2 to 5 days. There are bandages to do during a couple of weeks after the operation.

  • You will need to wear a support brace, day and night for 2 weeks, or even a month.
  • Plan an activity moderate for a fortnight.
  • Some swelling of the abdominal wall and bruises will several weeks to disappear.

The scar, pink the first months will fade gradually after the 3th month. She gets really quiet after the 1era year, but it takes sometimes 3 years. Be aware, however, that it will never disappear completely.

A plastic surgery abdominal, although that made for partly aesthetic motivations, remains no less a real surgical procedure, which implies risks associated with any medical procedure, as minimal as is. There are complications related to those related to the surgical anesthesia. In fact, complications can occur after Abdominoplasty which constitutes the heavy plastic and aesthetic surgery interventions.

What are the possible complications of surgery plastic and aesthetic of the abdominal wall?

Plastic surgery and aesthetic of the abdominal wall has made decisive progress which today, in many cases, offer adapted a technique and a therapeutic strategy and to solve, either by a simple liposuction, an abdominal mini-plastie, either by a most important intervention, the main aesthetic problems posed by the abdomen.

Among these possible complications :

  • Thrombo-previous accidents (phlebitis, pulmonary embolism), although generally quite rare, are among the most formidable. Preventive measures must minimize the impact : low antithrombose port, get up early, possibly anticoagulant treatment.
  • The occurrence of a hematoma, which is actually quite rare, can justify an evacuation to avoid a secondary alteration of the aesthetic quality of the result.
  • The occurrence of infection, actually infrequent, will require a surgical drainage and antibiotic treatment.
  • It is not uncommon to observe from the 8th postoperative day, the occurrence of an effusion associated with a flow of lymph and oozing of the fat. Such effusion must sometimes be punctured, and it dries in general without specific sequel.
  • Cutaneous necrosis is sometimes observed, as a rule limited and localized. In fact, significant necrosis are exceptional. These necroses prevention is based on a well defined indication and the realization of a technical gesture suitable and careful, avoiding any excessive tension level sutures.
  • Alterations in the sensitivity of the wall, including a decrease in the sensitivity that is predominant in the sous-ombilicale region, can be observed : the normal sensitivity usually reappears within a period of 3 to 12 months at the waning of Abdominoplasty.
  • Finally, we can observe, especially in patients whose skin is very injured or very scarred, the phenomena of delayed healing, lengthening the postoperative.
